Die Färberstraße ist eine der älteren Straßen Krefelds und erinnert mit ihrem Namen an das Textilgewerbe und seine grundlegende Bedeutung für die Stadt. Da ich keine detaillierteren Angaben finden konnte, kann ich nur vermuten, dass die Färberstraße entweder im Rahmen der fünften Stadterweiterung 1766 oder der berühmten sechsten Stadterweiterung 1819 – 1870 unter Adolph von Vagedes in das innere Krefelder Stadtgebiet integriert wurde.
Heute ist die Färberstraße eine unscheinbare Gasse zwischen dem Stadttheater und der angrenzenden Wohnbebauung. Das Bild zeigt auf der linken Bildhälfte einen Teil des zum Stadttheater gehörenden Verwaltungs- und Werkstattbaus mit dem Übergang über die Färberstraße und auf der rechten Bildhälfte die Rückseite eines Mietshauses am Ostwall.
The Färberstraße (‚dyer’s street‘) is one of the older streets in Krefeld and is reminescent of the textile industry and its fundamental importance to the city. Since I was unable to find any more detailed information, I can only assume that the Färberstraße had been integrated into the city centre either during the fith urban expansion of 1766 or during the famous sixth urban expansion 1819 – 1870 under the direction of Adolph von Vagedes.
Today, the Färberstraße is a rather inconspicuous alleyway running between the city’s theater and the adjacent residential area. The photograph shows a part of a building housing offices and workshops of the the theatre and its passage to the theatre on the left and the back of residential houses at the Ostwall on the right.
